Aged Sauvignon Blanc Paired with Mature Forest and Bundle of Awards at Falcon Ridge!
October 24, 2019
Susan Campbell loves an #agedsav almost as much as the very mature regenerated native forest on the Falcon Ridge Estate land. As Bob Campbell says of sauvignon blanc, his wine class students often choose one 5 or 6 years old versus a young one, that wine develops some interesting bottle age characters. Sauvignon Blanc grown and made well, ages well. There’s your tip for the day!
As part of CELLARbration Falcon Ridge will be open over Labour Weekend and you can taste and purchase some special limited release wines. For the first time as a Labour weekend special, they’re releasing magnums of the Gold Medal 2015 Pinot Noir and Bragato Trophy 2015 Syrah. This is alongside their usual wines. Though of course they’re hardly ‘usuals’ – winning awards like there’s no tomorrow…
2016 – Falcon Ridge Estate win Alan Limmer Trophy for their 2015 Syrah at the Bragato Wine Awards and a Gold Medal for their 2015 Pinot Noir at the NZ International Wine Show.
2017 – Falcon Ridge Estate awarded Trophy Champion Exhibition Red Wine for their 2016 Syrah at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards; the Master Trophy for 2015 Sauvignon Blanc at the Global Sauvignon Blanc Masters; Gold Medals for their 2015 Pinot Noir at the Global Pinot Noir Masters and their 2015 Syrah at the Global Syrah Masters in London.
2018 – Falcon Ridge Estate awarded Regional Trophy for their 2017 Pinot Noir at the New Zealand Wine of the Year Awards (the same wine has been awarded 5 Stars and 96 points by Wine Orbit in August 2019!) and Gold Medals for their 2016 Pinot Noir at the Global Pinot Noir Masters and their 2016 Sauvignon Blanc at Harpers NZ Wine Stars in London.
Perhaps bike via Tasman’s Great Taste Trail, maybe enjoy walking the trails through mature QEII Covenant totara forest along with extensive new plantings where they’ve planted 400,000 natives to re-establish lowland totara forest and wetlands.
